The Heart of Navigation
Cancer has a way of arriving without warning. Plans change. Timelines shift. Questions multiply. Many families describe the early days as disorienting, overwhelming, and lonely.
This short film offers a glimpse into what patient navigation looks like at Pacific Cancer Foundation, through the voices of one caregiver and two of our navigators, Andrea and Tori. Their reflections remind us that no two cancer voyages are the same, and that meaningful care begins by listening.
For caregivers like Gigi, navigation meant having someone step in during a moment of chaos. When her sister’s surgery date was unexpectedly moved up, travel and accommodations had to be rearranged immediately. In the midst of grief and uncertainty, PCF’s navigation team helped guide the way forward with calm, compassion, and practical support.
For Andrea and Tori, patient navigation is both personal and deeply rooted in empathy. Their work is guided by the understanding that every diagnosis carries its own fears, challenges, and needs. Navigation is not about offering a single solution. It is about walking alongside families, helping them make sense of what comes next, and ensuring they feel supported rather than alone.
Across Maui County, families often face additional challenges. Travel between islands. Appointments on O‘ahu. The need for a caregiver to accompany a loved one. Financial strain layered on top of emotional stress. Patient navigation exists to help families move through these realities with dignity, clarity, and care.
Today, Pacific Cancer Foundation is serving more than 400 families across Maui County, offering free patient navigation, transportation support, and essential resources to cancer patients, caregivers, and survivors. This care is made possible through community support and a shared belief that no one should face cancer alone.
As you watch the film, we invite you to listen for the quiet moments. The honesty. The tenderness. The steady guidance that helps families find their way, even when the path feels uncertain.
If this story moved you, your support helps ensure that families across Maui County continue to receive free patient navigation, guidance, and care.
