Wrapped in Aloha: How Quilts from Kula Bring Comfort to PCF Patients
In a quiet room at the Pacific Cancer Foundation, folded quilts rest gently atop care packages—each one a patchwork of warmth, intention, and aloha. These quilts don’t come from a warehouse or a manufacturer. They come from the hands and hearts of the women of the Kula Catholic Quilt Ministries.
For years, this devoted group has stitched together comfort for PCF’s patients, creating handmade quilts that are as beautiful as they are meaningful. Though we’re not sure exactly when the tradition began, their presence has become a steady thread woven into the fabric of our work.
Each quilt is carefully sewn, prayed over, and sent with love to someone in need. For patients undergoing chemotherapy—often in chilly treatment rooms—these quilts offer more than physical warmth. They bring comfort. They bring care. They bring a reminder that someone in the community is thinking of them.
We include them in our care packages and distribute them to patients throughout Maui County. Their impact is quiet but powerful—felt deeply by the individuals who receive them and remembered long after.
To the women of Kula Catholic Quilt Ministries—mahalo. Your quilts carry more than stitches and fabric. They carry hope.
Gifts like these quilts remind our patients that they are cared for, seen, and never alone.
