Celebrating 10 Years with PCF and a birthday wish

Go Pink Campaign in 2017 at the Kahului Fire Station

Aloha PCF 'Ohana,

This year marks 10 years since I began working with this wonderful organization, serving cancer patients and their families across Maui, Lāna‘i, and Moloka‘i.

Now that I live in Southern California, my work has been remote for the past few years—but being away has only made me appreciate it more. PCF feels like home. It’s rooted in the Maui community. It understands local culture, local needs, and what it means to show up for someone during one of the hardest times in their life.

When cancer enters the picture, everything feels uncertain. But having a place to turn to—one that knows your home, your people, your island—is powerful. PCF offers that sense of grounding.

Maui is already such a healing place. While some choose to travel to the mainland for treatment—which can absolutely be the right choice for them—many opt to stay close to home, surrounded by their support system, their culture, and their community. That’s what makes PCF so special. It helps make high-quality care accessible right here in Maui County, so those who wish to stay can receive the support they need without leaving everything familiar behind.

We all know how expensive life is these days. Now imagine facing a cancer diagnosis on top of that—many have to fly to O‘ahu for treatment, pay for taxis and overnight stays, and cover the extra cost of bringing a caregiver for support. The stress and costs add up quickly. PCF can help cover these costs.

With my birthday a week away, I decided to set a goal that feels both meaningful and a little ambitious—$1,000 for ten years with PCF. I almost set it at $500, but then thought… why not celebrate a decade of this work with something a little bolder?

If you feel moved to give, I’d be so grateful. Every gift, no matter the size, helps make sure our Maui cancer community continues to be supported with care and compassion.

Mahalo nui loa for reading, for supporting, and for being part of this fulfilling journey with me.

With aloha,
Natalia
